Schools have a duty under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by:
- providing a safe learning environment
- making appropriate referrals to children’s social care where children are in need or at risk of harm
- work with local authorities in taking action to safeguard children missing from education.
